Digital Design Annual

I came across this layout in Print magazine. The function of this article is to discuss Print magazine's digital design annual and show the featured designers works. The article caught my eye because of the interesting and bold choice of yellow. It really made it stand out from the rest of the magazine. Other pages in the article also use different colored pages like blue, pink, red, and gray. These colors help unify the article. The article uses a serif font for the body and uses a sans serif font for emphasis and side bars. The layout of the text and pictures is very well balanced.

Off the Shelf

I found this article layout in Print magazine. The function of this article is to tell about the author's, Steven Heller, exploration of the New York public library's digital gallery. The colors chosen for the layout work very well together and compliment the photos used nicely. It is well balanced, and the photos used are very nice. The entire article is written in a clean and legible serif type. The blue and red colors used throughout the article are what drew my eye to this layout.

Danny Clinch

I found this layout in Communication Arts. This article is about famous rock photographer, Danny Clinch. The function of the layout is to display Clinch's photos. This was particularly appealing to me because of the large photos used throughout the article and how they are laid out. Instead of scaling the photos down and adding text with them, the layout makes the photo stand out by themselves. The text is very nice and clean. The article is written with serif type and it uses sans serif type for the title, lead in, and side bars. The layout has very good balance and structure. The colors are well chosen for emphasis and match the pictures. White space is used to show the whole picture, instead of blowing the whole picture up and making it fill the page.

Cool New World

This layout came from Print magazine. The function is to show the reader about new art in the world. The white space in the layout is very well used. Even thought each image is very different, the bright colors and shapes of the images help balance both pages and keeps it unified. They used a serif typeface throughout the article except for the sans serif type on the middle image, which is used for emphasis. The bright and creative images are what attracted me to this layout.
